Calvin Vollrath
& Freddie Pelletier long ago established themselves as true
country music legends. In this well-chosen collection of work,
they transport the listener on a pleasant melodic vacation from
a Mexican border town to the Texas Panhandle, then on to the
Smoky Mountains and also an Acadian French experience. Dispelling
the myth that country music is an entity unto itself; they journey
to the very roots of the art form. The excursion takes on an
international flavor, visiting the heart of
Spain, to a smoky Paris bistro and then on to the mystic tapestry
of a gypsy encampment.
All the while, they own each creative work they touch. This album
conjures up images of masters, Stephane Grapelli and Django Reinhardt,
Chet Atkins and Johnny Gimble. The harmonies, arpeggios and counterpoint
are unique and dazzling.
You have to remind yourself that this is a couple of Canadian
country music genius' just kickin' back having some good honest
fun. God forbid, they should ever get serious.
